Watch the bizarre moment a seal hits a Kaikōura kayaker in the face with an octopus

This is probably the last thing you would expect to happen when kayaking in Kaikōura …

… a seal slapping you in the face with an octopus.

But that’s exactly what happened to Kiwi Kyle Mulinder when he was out for a ride on the ocean and what’s more is that he captured it all on his GoPro.

It's no surprise that that video has now gone viral!

Talking to Australian news media, Kyle explained the bizarre situation.

"We were just sitting out in the middle of the ocean and then this huge male seal appeared with an octopus and he was thrashing him about for ages," he told 7News.

"I was like 'mate, what just happened?' It was weird because it happened so fast but I could feel all the hard parts of the octopus on my face."

We must admit this is pretty funny – but we doubt it was pleasant!
