Watch: Orca Whale Pod Swims in the Shallows of Canterbury's Akaroa Harbour

A pod of orca were spotted enjoying the waters off Akaroa on Monday,and apparently these sights are becoming more common!

Hugh Waghorn of Akaroa Dolphins told Fairfax that there were nine orca in the pod.

The pod contained two bulls as well as several teenagers and a few calves.

Sightings of orca in the Akaroa Harbour are said to be increasing, with some tourist operators reporting up to six sightings per year.

"That is great to know that maybe the coastal environment is more conducive to orca than it used to be," said Mr Waghorn.
