The World's Most Expensive Gem Stone Has Been Unearthed

Say hello to the “Virgin Rainbow,” an extremely rare opal worth over US$1 million. 

It was resurrected from the mining region of South Australia. It is currently getting ready for its first public appearance at the South Australian Museum in September. 

The stone is actually made of dinosaur fossils that have opalized over millions of years.

Opal is created when water and silica mix together to form a gel that flows into rocks and fossils. It eventually hardens into the magic you see here.
