1/4 Being Chased: This is the most common dream of all, and it seems the meaning varies depending on who or what is chasing you. Being chased by an animal indicates difficulties suppressing impulses in day to day life, whereas being chased by a monster indicates one’s struggles in trying to define and progress a particular skill. Being chased by another person, indicates one is avoiding displaying a particular talent which they know deep down, they should be excelling with. (Photo / iStock)

2/4 Missing/Showing Up Late For An Important Event: Wallace’s extensive dream analysis has concluded that a dream of this nature is probably an indication of the dreamer’s fear that they have perhaps missed their calling in life. The event which is either being missed or which you have shown up late to, is symbolic of a particular ambition/milestone which you’ve wanted to achieve, such as getting a new job for example. Basically, this dream is your subconscious giving you a kick up the arse so that you take action. (Photo / iStock)

3/4 Your Home Being Destroyed (specifically by fire or water): Strangely, in the case of fire, Wallace’s findings indicate that this dream is actually an indication of something positive. A burning house is symbolic of a need to illuminate one’s ability to take creative action to improve their life. A house being destroyed by floods or being in some way water damaged, indicates being overwhelmed by strong, pent up emotions, which are perhaps making you question your own identity. 4/4 Drowning: The conclusions of this are more obvious than others from Wallace’s study. A drowning dream seems to suggest that events in life have become overwhelming and that you are struggling to respond effectively to your situation/surroundings. (Photo / iStock)

But what do your dreams actually mean?
Thanks to research by renowned psychologist, Ian Wallace, who has studied the dreams of more than 200,000 individuals, he has indicated some answers to the meaning behind popular dreams.
