Having to charge our phones one, two or ten times a day is becoming the bane of our existence! We can't help but wonder why our phone batteries can't just live forever.Â
But we can now reveal that the future is nearly here!Â
An article published by The Thrillist has revealed the news we have all been subconsciously waiting for - soon we will only have to charge our phones every three months.
EVERY THREE MONTHS. FOUR TIMES A YEAR. OMG.
Researchers at the University of Michigan and Cornell have engineered a special material called "magnetoelectric multiferroic," which has hugely exciting potential for environmentalists and tech manufacturers alike.
It will allow computers of the future to operate using just a few quick pulses of electricity rather than a constant stream, like the semiconductor-based devices we currently use. Â In other words, our smartphones will soon require 100 times less energy to run!Â
In the recently published study (which is reasonably hard to understand tbh), it reveals the new technology will "sandwich" individual layers of atoms together to produce a thin, magnetically polar film that can be switched from negative to positive using a tiny pulse of energy. Say what? Yeah, we're just going to put this down to pure magic.
Basically, it means the electric energy our phones currently use, will be transferred a lot more quickly and efficiently. Computers, smartphones, and similar devices could perform with just a tiny amount of power, meaning our phones will only need charging every three months!!
Hallelujah.Â
