Despite Friends finishing back in 2004, we're still finding out a lot of quirky things about the show!

Just yesterday, this Phoebe Buffay alternative ending was revealed.

Remember how Phoebe ended up with our collective soulmate Mike Hannigan, who’s played by Paul Rudd? Turns out it almost didn't happen!

Though Phoebe officially ended her time on Friends with Mike, their wedding wasn’t always in the cards. In fact, it was David (yes, the scientist boyfriend) who was more than ready to come between them.

“The plan always was kind of to bring [David] back,” Hank Azaria (the actor who played David) told The Huffington Post. “I think, honestly, what happened was Paul Rudd is so awesome that they sort of found a groove with him and [my character] became more of just the grist for that mill. As opposed to the other way around.”

Unfamiliar with David's ending? Here's a rundown:

His relationship with Phoebe ended when he travelled to Minsk in the name of doing important research. However, he ended up coming back into Phoebe’s life after she learned that Mike never wanted to marry again because he was still scarred by his first failed marriage. At this point, David returned to propose to Phoebe, which caused Mike to do the same so he wouldn’t lose her.

While Phoebe turned both men down, she ended up with Mike (Paul Rudd).
