Our morning routines usually involve actions that we just do by default, and this will usually include a quick application of deodorant at some point in the morning.
So what if we told you that we'd all been doing it wrong? Because according to new research, some of us actually have been doing it wrong.
Research has found that not everyone naturally produces body odour. It's apparently down to a certain gene type as to whether or not we produce BO.
If that's the case then that means there is no need for everyone to be using deodorant.Â
Researchers have concluded that people who don't naturally smell don't actually need to constantly spray themselves and only do so because it's just what society expects you to do. If you are naturally smellyÂ
Professor Ian Day, lead author of the study, said: "An important finding of this study relates to those individuals who, according to their genotype, do not produce under-arm odour. One quarter of these individuals must consciously or subconsciously recognise that they do not produce odour and do not use deodorant, whereas most odour producers do use deodorant. However, three quarters of those who do not produce an odour regularly use deodorants; we believe that these people simply follow scio-cultural norms."
We're not saying to not use it now. If you're smelling stinky, then please for the sake of those around you, use it.
