Facebook has threatened to delete any photos uploaded by users’ phones, unless they switch to its new Moments app.

It warned that unless users made the switch before 7th July, or downloaded photos to their computers from their online profiles, the images will be deleted.

In a statement posted online, Facebook said: 'Photos you privately synced from your phone to Facebook will be deleted.

'Earlier this year, they were moved to Moments, a new app from Facebook.

'The Moments app lets you organise and privately share photos from your phone, and download or delete photos you've synced to Facebook.'

The app was release in 2015 and is available to download from Google Play and Apple's App Store.

You may not have ever used the app before, but FYI - it's a pretty handy tool!

The 'Moments' feature has been available since it was rolled out in 2012, enabling users to backup all photos taken on their phones to a synced private album on their Facebook profile.
