This Hollywood actor is rumoured to be the next big name to play The Joker

It was recently revealed that legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese is working on a new Joker movie, but what's really got fans talking is the actor lined up to play the role.

The Hollywood Reporter is claiming Oscar winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio is reportedly the producers first pick to take on the role.

The rumours came after it was announced that Jared Leto, who was the last to play the role in Suicide Squad last year, will not be cast for the role.

Further fueling the speculations is the fact Scorsese and DiCaprio have worked together on many big-name movies, including The Departed, Gangs of New York, The Aviator, and The Wolf of Wall Street.

The film, which is to be directed by The Hangover's Todd Phillips, will be set in the 1980s and will apparently explore how 'bullying shaped the villain's twisted psyche.'

So far there have been four actors to play the character on the screen. Cesar Romero first took on the role, followed by Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger and of course Leto.
