Liam Hemsworth missed Miley Cyrus' Grammy performance because he was rushed to hospital

As part of a star-studded tribute honouring Dolly Parton at the Grammy Awards on Monday, Miley Cyrus showed off her powerful vocals as she belted out an electrifying duet with none other than the country music queen herself.

But sadly, the brunette beauty's husband, Liam Hemsworth, missed her epic performance because he was rushed to hospital.

Reports first surfaced the 29-year-old actor was unwell when his Isn't It Romantic co-star Rebel Wilson explained Hemsworth was missing from promotional interviews due to an unspecified medical problem.

Wilson said at the time: "Yes, he texted us this morning — he was in hospital overnight."

A spokesperson for Warner Brothers confirmed to People magazine that Liam had woken up feeling unwell so pulled out of his press commitments to recover.

Now, Cyrus has revealed her husband is "recovering" after suffering from kidney stones.

The former Hannah Montana star attended the premiere of Hemsworth's latest film in Los Angeles on his behalf, as he was still not well enough to make an appearance.

Taking to Instagram, the 26-year-old pop star gave an update on the Hollywood hunk by sharing a series of photos of herself attending the premiere in her spouse's place.

Alongside a picture of herself walking the red carpet in a gorgeous red ball gown by Valentino, she wrote: "So proud of my hunky hubby @liamhemsworth & his newest movie #IsntItRomantic  He unfortunately wasn’t able to attend due to health reasons... but he is recovering and taking this time to rest / heal. It’s hard for entertainers to put themselves before the project but this time it was crucial .... I am proud to represent him and his incredible work. So happy to see him shining in this comedy! He is the funniest person I know, and the world now gets to see the Liam I wake up to every day.... luckiest."

Hemsworth - who tied the knot with Cyrus at a secret ceremony at their home in Nashville in December - also updated his fans to say he was gutted he couldn't attend the premiere due to "pretty annoying health stuff" and thanked his wife for stepping in for him.

Captioning a picture of Cyrus and Wilson, he wrote: "Sorry I couldn't make it to the @isntitromantic premier tonight guys. Been dealing with some pretty annoying health stuff the last couple days. Lucky I have the best girl in the world to represent for me! Thanks for the support babe! I hope everyone enjoys the movie! It's a perfect Valentine's Day flick so if ya ain't got nothin better to do then go see it! Love to all!"
