Kelly Clarkson and John Legend perform new version of 'Baby It's Cold Outside'
Powerhouse performers Kelly Clarkson and John Legend have debuted their modern twist on the Christmas classic Baby It’s Cold Outside live on The Voice.
The singers made headlines when it was revealed that they had tweaked the lyrics of the holiday song from the original 1944 version.
The new lyrics: "IÂ really can't stay (Baby, it's cold outside) / I've got to go away (but, I can call you a ride) / This evening has been (I'm so glad you that you dropped in) / So very nice (time spent with you is paradise)".
This is the first time The Voice coaches performed the song together live and it has come with mixed reviews from fans of the song.
While many were impressed with the pair's impeccable voices, others were not so sure about the new lyrics.
"Wish it was the classic version and not this funny parody," one Twitter user wrote.
"This was absolutely ridiculous," another added. "There is absolutely nothing wrong with the original and those offended by it can kindly jump off the nearest cliff."
"Leave the classics alone," someone else noted.
However, many fans praised the new update to the song.
"You two are amazing," one person wrote on Twitter. "So talented! Thank you for rehabilitating this treasure of a song. I've always loved the melody but the message in the lyrics was so wrong."
"This is nothing but class! Beautifully done. For anyone that this seems to bother they best step back and see this performance," another fan added.
"Finally relevant lyrics for 2019! Excellent job and your voices together are magical," one person noted.
