Ellie Goulding has talked candidly about her 'friendship' with Ed Sheeran, after endless rumours of a relationship and a disastrous falling-out.
In an interview with Seventeen magazine, the singer put an end to the chatter once and for all. Or did she?
"We’ve known each other for a few years. I think he’s a really nice guy and a brilliant musician. We’ve bumped into each other and we’ve hung out and stuff, but the thing is if I hang out with someone, it’s instantly like I’m 'dating' them. We were never in a relationship. My song is not about him."
Sure - boys and girls that are friends are cool. Buuut there's still those lyrics from Ed Sheeran's "Don't" where he talks about trusting a girl in the same industry, staying on the same hotel floor, then having that trust betrayed.
That story seemed to correlate with rumours that Goulding had gotten with Niall from One Direction one night when she was supposed to be with Sheeran.
THEN everyone lost the plot over these lyrics from Goulding in "On My Mind":Â "You wanted my heart but I just liked your tattoos." Shots fired! Buuuut there are lots of tattooed dudes around that would like a piece of Ellie, she could be talking about anyone.Â
Goulding added in her Seventeen interview: "I want to write lyrics that girls can relate to. I’m a girl; I know how hard it is … If girls are anything like me when I was a teenager, then I want them to know everything is going to be okay."
Riiiiight. Not sure if we can call this myth 'busted' yet, but it's a development at least.
