Ed Sheeran's adorable explanation for mysterious 'wedding' ring will melt your heart

He sent the rumour mill into overdrive after he was spotted wearing a silver ring on his left finger, suggesting he has already married long-term love, Cherry Seaborn.

Despite the initial excitement, Ed Sheeran has hit back at speculation he has wed in secret and revealed that his new accessory is actually an engagement ring while walking the BRITs red carpet, the Daily Mail reports.

Speaking to Sky News, the 27-year-old Shape of You hitmaker explained that he liked the idea of both of them having a ring to mark their engagement.

He shared to quell speculation: "It’s an engagement ring, 'cause I feel like — I dunno. I feel like it’s good to both do things."

The singer also told ITV that Cherry had actually made the band for him herself out of "silver clay".

"I never saw why men didn’t wear engagement rings," he said, "because it’s the same commitment either way.

"Cherry made it for me herself out of silver clay and I really like it.”

This confirmation comes after he sparked speculation that he'd secretly tied the knot with his fiancee Cherry after he was seen sporting a silver wedding band at a London gig earlier this week.

Ed and Cherry are notoriously private about their relationship, but they did reveal they got engaged at the end of last year, sharing the news on Instagram in January.

Ed informed his 18.9 million followers at the time: "Got myself a fiancé just before new year. We are very happy and in love, and our cats are chuffed as well xx".
