Road Closure Due To Flooding

State Highway 2 between Napier and Wairoa has been closed due to flooding.

The highway has flooded near the small settlement of Turiroa, 5km west of Wairoa. 

That section of the highway runs alongside the Wairoa River, which has risen significantly since heavy rain began yesterday.

The road has been closed at Whirinaki near Napier and in the Wairoa township at the intersection of SH2 and Mitchell Rd.

Police are advising motorists to delay all travel on the highway overnight. 

The road will be reassessed in the morning.
