NEWS: Bay man on the run now in custody

A Hastings man who poured petrol on a teenager and set him alight has been arrested after being on the run for almost a month.

Matt Shannon was found last night by police in Rotorua and is now in custody.

The 20 year old was released from jail in December after serving two years for deliberating setting a 16 year old on fire at a birthday party at his home in 2011.

He was released on parole with conditions to live a specific address, not use drugs or alcohol and complete a drug and alcohol programme.

Police have been hunting for him after issuing a warrant on April 23.
