Hawke's By Civil Defence Emergency Management Group have released the following statement via their Facebook page regarding the risk of Tsunami in Hawke's Bay following the earthquake in Chile.

It reads:

'A powerful magnitude 8.3 earthquake has hit Santiago in Chile. Indications are that there will be increased wave heights but these are unlikely to pose any threat to the Hawke's Bay Coast. However, coastal users should be aware of possible waves over the coming days. We will keep you updated of any changes.'
