Is it time to change the way we think about Mother's Day?
Mother’s Day is important to take a moment to reflect on the importance of mothers and motherhood. This holiday is an opportunity to celebrate the love, sacrifice, and hard work that goes into being a mum, and to express our gratitude for all that our mothers do.Â
For many of us, Mother's Day conjures up images of flowers, chocolates, and breakfast in bed. But it's important to remember that this holiday is about much more than material gifts. It's a time to reflect on the role that mothers play in our lives and to appreciate all that they do.Â
Adam and Megan, the breakfast hosts of The Hits Hawke's Bay, talked about how perhaps it's time to rethink our approach to this holiday. Instead of focusing on what we want or what we expect, we should focus on the joy and gratitude that comes with being a mother or having a mother.Â
Megan, who has been a mum for 10 years, spoke about how her thinking around Mother's Day has evolved over time. In the early days of motherhood, she had grand expectations for the day, hoping for a break from the demands of parenting. But as time went on, she realized that Mother's Day is not about getting a break from motherhood, but about appreciating the gift of motherhood.Â
"I don't want them to grow up thinking that all mum ever wanted for Mother's Day was not to be with them," Megan said of her children. "So this year I'm trying really hard to change my thinking about Mother's Day and to make it more about trying to find little grateful moments of joy and being a mother."Â
Adam and Megan both agreed that Mother's Day is a time to celebrate the unique and invaluable role that mothers play in our lives. From changing diapers to wiping tears, from listening to our stories to cheering us on from the sidelines, mothers are always there, doing the hard work of parenting with love and dedication.Â
So this Mother's Day, let's express our gratitude for all that our mothers have done for us, and for all that we are able to do as mothers ourselves. And let's remember that while Mother's Day may only come around once a year, the love and appreciation that we feel for our mothers should be something that we carry with us every day.Â
