Police are looking for a man who held up a Hastings service station attendant at knife point.

The man went into the Mobil service station on Pakowhai Rd about 6.15am yesterday morning and presented a knife at the attendant and demanded money from the till.

The man followed the attendant to the counter and took several hundred dollars in notes and coins.

The attendant was also made to open a cigarette cabinet and the offender took packets of blue Pall Mall cigarettes along with some other packets before running from the store.

The offender is described as dark-skinned and wearing a hoodie with the hood over his head and a scarf around his face.

The man was seen walking south along Pakowhai Road from the direction of Hastings Girls High School before he went into the service station.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the man on Pakowhai Rd early yesterday morning.
