During the week I was lucky enough to chat with Shane Cortese one of New Zealand’s most recognised and loved performers about his new role as Dave in State Highway 48.
For those who maybe new to this amazing production here is a brief description from the show's webpage.
State Highway 48 is a 21st century story that tracks the life and times of an everyday family as they navigate the treacherous road of middle age. Changes in family, the workplace, friendships are set against the backdrop of the recession. All this combines with the black dog of depression taking the driving seat in our lead character’s life to take everyone on a journey through questioning, bad judgement, job loss, marriage break up, near suicidal depression, laughter, tears and celebration. There’s a message for everyone about recognising depression and facing up to it, communication, love, friendship and the strength of the family unit.
26 original songs bring this unique, touching and universally relevant rock opera to life.Â
State Highway 48 is currently showing at Clarence St Theatre in Hamilton, for information and to purchase ticket please follow the link below.
