'Married At First Sight Australia' relationship expert reveals the secret to a happy marriage

It’s our guilty pleasure show, and now Married At First Sight: Australia is back for season 10.

With the show kicking off on Kiwi TV screens next week Jono and Ben caught up with MAFS relationship expert John Aiken.

He shared his thoughts on spotting a successful MAFS couple and some of the relationship secrets that Kiwi couples can take away from the show.

"You’re going to see it in series 10. The fight styles of some of these guys are terrible,” John explained. "You know they come out with a sledgehammer they use, you know, all sorts of personal attacks and then they just say, ‘hey, I'm just speaking my truth’.

"What I would say to people is you need to watch how your words land. Words are very powerful and the softer that you bring things up, the more likely that the person's going to stay involved in the conversation. Essentially good speaking equals good listening."

Another tip John suggested was taking a break during a fight and coming back when you have a clearer head.

"You can certainly go take a little time to gather yourself, but you do have to always come back to it," John said.

"But when you do come back to it, don't think about point scoring. Don't think about 'I'm right or wrong'. Instead you both [need to be] able to listen and validate [each other’s points of view], then you move forward."

Good advice!
