Jono and Ben reveal what they love most about being Kiwi dads

Jono and Ben will be celebrating Father's Day with their families this Sunday.

Ahead of the big day, they revealed what they love most about being a Kiwi dad! We're sure other Kiwi dads will be able to relate.

What do you love most about being a Dad?

Jono: Being able to tell miniature versions of yourself what to do—and when they question it, just replying with "because I said so." Also, in all honesty, seeing them grow up into the coolest little people and watching how smart, funny, and full of potential they are is one of the most satisfying things. The more we go through this thing called life, the more satisfying it becomes.

Ben: Don't tell my beloved Warriors league team, but nothing compares to the joy I get from spending time with my daughters and seeing them grow into amazing people. Not even a last minute Warriors win can top that! I'm so incredibly proud to be their Dad and also proudly embarrass them often by trying to use Gen Z slang!

What's some advice you would share with new or expecting Dads?

Jono: Cliché o'clock: Enjoy and savour every stage and moment because, holy crapsticks, it goes quickly. It is frightening.

Ben: When I think back to being a Dad for the first time, it was a real mix of excitement and nerves. I remember when we first brought my daughter Sienna back home from the hospital and closed the door it was a real moment of life-changing realisation. But wouldn't change it for a second, it's honestly the best thing ever and such a cliche, but it goes too fast, so enjoy the ride.

What has been the most surprising thing about fatherhood for you?

Jono: How quickly kids become better at stuff than you. I used to pretend to lose the games we played—now I get my arse kicked, mentally and physically. I forgot how shocking I was at school, and being reminded daily through their homework as an adult of how scholastically challenged I am is both triggering and humbling.

Ben: How both my daughters have grown up in the same household, with the same parents and are their own unique people and I really love that about them. I hope they use those unique things to follow their own paths and dreams. Now that my own personal dreams are mostly over, I'm keen to see what they achieve!

And most importantly... What do you ACTUALLY want for Father's Day?

Jono: For my son to let me win at a game of basketball and for my daughter to pretend to laugh at one of my sweet comedy jokes.

Ben: I'm just happy if we just get to hang out as a family... oh... actually... maybe someone else rather than could clean up the dog poop for once on Father's Day!
