Watching mum audition to be a model is not your everyday activity but brothers Levi, 7, and Joel O'Hara, 4, looked proud as mum Kelly posed for photos in the indulge Bay Model competition at the weekend.

The 39-year-old Papamoa mother-of-three and Bay business owner was one of scores of Bay women who flocked to the Bay of Plenty Times offices over the weekend to try their luck at the 2015 competition, which is in association with Blur Eyecare. Diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, Mrs O'Hara said she had been through pain and side effects from medication over the last few years which had affected her confidence. "It affected how I felt about my figure and my hair has only just come back. Entering this is part of getting myself back."

Bay of Plenty Times event manager Dayna Comeskey said there had been a great turnout for the registration. "It's going to be a really tough job getting it down to 15 because we wish we could put them all through into the show," she said.

he said the diversity of entrants was inspiring. "We had ages from 18 to 77, with diverse backgrounds and fascinating life stories." The 15 finalists will be announced in next Saturday's indulge in the Bay of Plenty Times Weekend.
