Riding bikes, playing war, and building forts - these were some of our favourite pastimes as a kid. But these days, mainly thanks to technology, things have changed. It seems like the best childhood pastimes are but a distant memory...
- Waiting for letters from your pen pal - now you just check your email.
- Going to the DVD store - Now it’s Netflix or Lightbox.
- Saturday morning cartoons - Cable TV got rid of this.
- Walking to someone’s house to see if they’re at home - these days you just call them.
- Neighborhood wars - fake “guns” and “swords” are frowned upon.
- Marbles - it was cool while it lasted.
- Rewinding movies when they’re over - thank goodness we don’t have tapes anymore!
- Waiting for your favourite song to come on the radio - now you just use YouTube, Spotify, or iTunes.
- Collectors cards - kids used to have binders full of them!
- Prank calling - then caller ID happened.
- Staying out all day playing without your parents being able to contact you - now we all have mobile phones.
- Playing manhunt at night - no one wants to roam the streets at night now.
- Climbing trees - it’s a long lost art form.
- Writing notes in class - mobile phones ruined this. Now we just send texts.
- Putting playing cards in the spokes of your bike - do kids still use bikes these day?
- Watching actual music videos on MTV - now it's just reality shows.
- Doorbell ditching - this was when you rang someone’s door and ran away.
- Building model planes/trains/cars - now there’s computers and 3D printers for that.
- Going to the library to get reading books - E books anyone?
