Bryan Ware had an epiphany at his birthday dinner back in 2011. After watching his children drawing with crayons provided by the restaurant, he wondered what would happen to the crayons when they'd finished with them.
After finding out from an employee that all the crayons were disposed of, he decided to do something about it.Â
Two years later he founded The Crayon Initiative.
The Crayon Initiative is a nonprofit organisation that recycles unwanted crayons by making them into new ones, and distributes them to children’s hospitals across California.
The process involves melting the used crayons down, sorting them into colours, and re-shaping them to make new ones!
We think this is awesome!
