In case robot karaoke and robot restaurants weren't enough, the Japanese have come up with the world's first "smart hotel" aka robot hotel.

The Henn na Hotel... literally translated to Weird Hotel... has opened in Japan where guests check in with robots which also deliver their luggage to rooms.

Hideo Sawada, who runs the hotel as part of an amusement park, insists using robots is not a gimmick but a serious effort to use technology and achieve efficiency.

Another feature is facial recognition technology, so instead of the standard electronic keys, a digital image of the guest’s face is registered during check-in.

Despite the strangeness of the hotel... the rooms look pretty good!
