Teeny-Weeny Central Auckland House Has Now Sold

A tiny cottage in Auckland's CBD has sold unconditionally less than 24 hours after a $900,000 offer was rejected at auction.

The 1890s kauri cottage is one of two historical workingmen's cottages nestled between apartments in Nicholas St.

With two-bedrooms and one-bathroom, the house sits on a 73sq m section and has a CV of $650,000.

Ray White's Simon Damerall told the Herald the house had now been sold. But he could not say for how much as it sold for privately after Wednesday night's auction.

The owners of the property, who have asked to remain anonymous, said they and the buyer were happy with the price agreed, but did not want to disclose what it was.

They are a young couple who have enjoyed living in the sun-soaked spot but decided to move after having a baby.

"We're really thrilled that another couple has bought the house" they said.

"We hope they love it as much as we have. It's a special place in Auckland's history and we're excited for the new owners to become part of its history."

The house, which was saved from demolition in 2005, has been refitted with a new kitchen and bathroom within the past three years.

Despite its sandwiched position in the CBD, the house gets all-day sun and the Sky Tower can be seen from part of the private deck.

Original features include stained-glass windows, a front door with a large key and turned balustrades.
