Remuera Is Burning: Transformer On Fire, Power Out & Road Blocked

A power transformer in Auckland is on fire and has left hundreds of homes and businesses without power.

The Fire Service has sent five fire engines and a specialised foam unit to the 11-kilovolt transformer on Abbotts Way, Remuera.

Emergency vehicles are blocking the road and delays are expected.

A spokeswoman said the fire started at 6.30am and is still burning. 

Lines company Vector is reporting about 800 customers have lost power.

Traffic signals are also out on Lunn Ave and Abbotts Way.

The Fire Service says officials are looking at closing the road.

And, devastatingly, getting to Thursday morning golf might be tricky.
